In 2004 I was fortunate enough to read "A Suspended Pot, Non-Circulating Hydroponic Method" by B.A. Kratky passed on to me from a friend at NC State University. At the time Dr. Kratky was a horticulturalist at the University of Hawaii.  That day, two things happened.

First, I felt like years of messing around with non powered or limited power water distribution systems for Aquaponics and Hydroponics was finally validated.

Second, after quite a few number of years doing "off grid hydroponics" and some excellent results, Dr. Kratky produced "THREE NON-CIRCULATING HYDROPONIC METHODS FOR GROWING LETTUCE" in 2009. And after reading it I began testing EVERY DAMNED SEED I could. Leafy or not. And his method works.

I tested in the mountains. I tested in the desert. I tested in the sub tropics. Always the same result.... Food. And lots of food without a single watt of power. Not sure if Dr. Kratky knew in 1971, the year I was born, also the year he earned his doctorate from Purdue, that his method would be so amazingly substantial in just about every approach I have designing Intentional Agriculture for the last 11 years.

I doubt it. I am just a guy who loves to design integrated food and environmental systems. The important thing is that I know who he is and have tested his works extensively.

So what? Why does John Q. Sixpack give a crap about this?

Well imagine that in a 4ftx8ftx2ft deep container that you could grow enough leafy greens to feed your family a number of crops for a season (leafy greens, strawberries, cabbage etc). And you don't have to manage it every day.  Or double that bed area and now you have enough to feed your family and say... 30% of your feed for your back yard chickens.  What if that reduced your monthly food costs by 20-30% or your poultry feed costs by 30%? Would it make sense then?

Yes. Yes it will. I know it will because I have done it.

Or consider fodder systems for livestock in an off grid or power constrained situation. Modified Kratky systems can grow a ton of fodder feed without power and without wasting a very precious resource; water. Or maybe you aren't in a power constrained environment but are simply tired of wasting good money after bad at the grocery store or with a power conglomerate .

Maybe, youlikeme, are simply working to be self sovereign. Enjoy a different method. It takes little and creates a lot. Contact me to continue the conversation.
